Responsible for hiring, developing, motivating, counseling, and evaluating a competent, well-trained staff; holding staff accountable to maintaining high standards of performance; prioritizing assignments and making staffing adjustments in accordance with budgetary guidelines; monitoring the department operating and capital budgets; and maintaining the productivity goals of the department.
Current California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required. Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences and five years of Clinical Laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisory experience is helpful.

Description: Responsible for hematology, chemistry, parasitology, coagulation, and immunology on a variety of species. Work is performed in a clinical laboratory setting supporting medical research. Independently plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the analysis, handles problems, and corrects errors. Uses theoretical knowledge to design new protocols or assays with regard to new species or procedures or to enhance existing testing protocols.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a related scientific discipline or in medical technology, plus six months related clinical lab experience required; ASCP or California medical technologist (CLS) license required. The following are also preferred: Veterinary hematology experience, Misys/Sunquest commercial lab software experience, general computer skills i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
