2008 California CLS Licensing Exam
Will Not Be Given

Laboratory Field Services announced at the CLTAC meeting held March 7th that the state will not administer the 2008 CLS Licensing Exam this November.  As previously planned, the California CLS Exam has been phased out because LFS has now certified several national examinations as acceptable for CA licensing.  Applicants will still need apply to LFS and pay the license processing fee, are still required to meet California training standards and also to pass a short on-line quiz testing their knowledge of State Law.  For additional information check the Our Professions section of this website.

Staggered License Renewal For CLS Personnel

Clinical Laboratory Scientists with "even year" birthdates should have had their licenses extended until their birthday in 2008 when they renewed at the end of 2006.  If you are in this group, your license will expire this year and renewal will require only 12 CE (taken between 1/1/2007 and your birthday this year).  Renewal will be for a full two year period expiring on your birthday in 2010.  Once you are on a full two year cycle it will require 24 CE to renew your license (in 2010).

CLS's with "odd year" birthdates should have renewed by December 31st, 2007 and the renewal will extend to their birthday in 2009.  Renewal in 2009 will require 12 CE (taken between 1/1/2008 and the birthday expiration in 2009).  That renewal will be for a two year period expiring on the birthdate in 2011.  Once you are on a full two year cycle it will require 24 CE to renew your license (in 2011).

If you are close to renewal and don't yet have the required units, CAMLT's Distance Learning is an excellent way to get those needed units.  There is a variety of course topics and many of the courses can be completed on-line.  Use the menu link above or click here to access our Distance Learning course list.
